St. Alder's Boarding Academy sits deep in the mountains, isolated from the rest of the world. Every fall, the school sends students into the wilderness for a two-week camping trip meant to teach discipline, survival, and obedience.
For Evelyn Hart, it's just another year of feeling invisible.
Until she finds an unlabeled VHS tape hidden near the campgrounds.
On it is Julian Cross-the reckless boy she barely knows-recording messages to nobody in particular. Late-night thoughts. Confessions. Jokes whispered into static. At the end of the tape, he asks a question:
"If someone finds this... leave one back."
So she does.
What starts as anonymous messages exchanged through videotapes turns into something neither of them expected. Through flickering screens and midnight confessions, Evelyn and Julian begin falling in love without ever truly speaking face to face.
But when Julian disappears into the restricted mountains surrounding the camp and uncovers a terrifying secret tied to war, military cover-ups, and hidden transmissions, the tapes change.
They become evidence.
And then they become goodbye letters.
Because someone heard what Julian wasn't supposed to hear.
And now they want him gone.
