"The government has controlled births since The Great Crisis, a worldwide crisis involving overpopulation, which caused environmental decline, which caused great natural catastrophes, which caused wars and eventually led to near human extinction. It had happened over many years, so technologies had time to upgrade, and it was ultimately used to enhance our survival. Animals were cloned, as was nature; scientists tried to replicate their method with humans, but it ended up being a big fat fail. The clones who came out of this experiment were, for the most part, dysfunctional, barely managing to make it past age five. Organ failures, bones too frail, and way too many abnormalities. Those who got close to normal were born without a conscience. Instinct is innate, but morals and etiquette can't be taught. Nothing could actually be taught; they acted like robots. They registered simple tasks, but if you didn't ask them to shit into the toilet specifically, they would do it on the floor, and if you forgot to command them, they would shit themselves. The government got tired of spending funds and getting no results in exchange, so they changed the recipe. Instead of cloning, they modified. They used all the animals they could find, made the strongest reproduce and exploited the weak ones. They experimented on homeless people in exchange for pocket change. The newborns' DNA was modified while still in their mothers' uterus. At first, they looked like mythological monsters, so they were named after one of them. Minotaurs. Just like the Clones, the results weren't bringing research teams much hope, but they kept going until we got where we are now. Genetically enhanced humans, mixed with animal genes. Still, even if it worked, and a huge majority looked normal, people fucked and gave birth to mixed children. Bastards. Like me. I was one of them. However, I was one of the lucky ones; some pairs weren't compatible, and beasts were the result of their union."
