The SynopsisIn the isolated, gothic town of Blackwood, shadows are a physical currency. For generations, the townsfolk have bartered with their own shadows, trading pieces of their literal souls to an ancient, predatory entity known as The Gloom in exchange for survival. As a result, the town exists in absolute, depressing darkness, and the people have forgotten how to laugh or feel joy.The only exception is the Southern Star-a massive, sparkling white star that sits directly above an abandoned cathedral at the town's edge. The Gloom has spent centuries trying to swallow the star's light, but the star remains untouchable.The Main CharactersEvander (The Shadowless): A quiet, melancholic youth who traded away almost his entire shadow to save his dying mother. Now, he feels entirely numb to the world-until he touches a fallen shard of the star and feels an explosion of warmth. Lyra (The Star-Catcher): A mysterious, glowing girl who crashes into the cathedral cemetery. She isn't human; she is the physical personification of the star, cast down to the earth because someone inside the town is actively betraying the light.The Plot TwistTo save the town from being permanently consumed by The Gloom, Evander must help Lyra climb back up to the sky. But he learns a terrible secret: the only way to ignite her power and send her back is to feed the star the purest thing left in the valley-his own remaining soul.
