A Slight Misunderstanding Underwater

Harry Potter goes into the Second Task expecting to rescue Ron, Hermione, or literally anyone who makes sense.

Instead, the merpeople aggressively inform him that Draco Malfoy is apparently "what he'd miss most."

Harry assumes this is a horrific underwater misunderstanding.
Draco assumes the lake is cursed.
Dumbledore assumes this is the funniest thing that has ever happened to him personally.

Now the entire school thinks Harry and Draco are tragically in love, Rita Skeeter won't stop writing headlines about "submerged passion," and Lucius Malfoy is one public incident away from collapsing into the Black Lake himself.

Unfortunately for Harry, the worst part isn't the humiliation.

It's the growing suspicion that the merpeople might've been right.
