Alvara Kiesler has spent years trying to leave. Now a senior studying Biomedical Engineering at the University of North Dakota and an intern at the local hospital, she finally feels like she's moving toward the future she's worked so hard to escape her past for.

Milo Lazare is living a dream most hockey players only talk about. As UND's star goalie and the newest prospect signed by the Chicago Blackhawks, his future seems set. But beneath the success and attention is someone few people take the time to know.

When a medical emergency throws them into each other's orbit, neither expects it to matter. Yet no matter how hard they focus on classes, careers, and the plans they've carefully made, they keep finding their way back to each other.
