Lucy Salacia never wanted to be a hero.
She didn't think very highly of herself; she had a PhD in earth sciences, and could be doing lots of great things, but yet chose to observe the readings of a super volcano that wouldn't erupt in hundreds of years. Nothing would change her boring routine of getting up, going to work, sitting at a desk all day, and going home.
Except when something did finally change.
Lucy was the first one to notice that the tectonic plates underneath the Earth's crust had stopped shifting, and was the first one taken by NASA to be informed that the Earth's inner core is cooling and has stopped rotating suddenly, which could lead to disaster.
With a deadline of only a couple of years , world governments send Lucy and a group of scientists into an underwater vessel into the Mariana's Trench, as close as possible to the core, to see if the sudden cooling can be reversed.
