The Games We Shouldn't Play

"Eight, go on dates. Nine, talk on the phone all night long. Ten, hold each others' hands. And last but not least, definitely not least, you have to kiss and hug."

"No, no way. Have you gone out of your mind!?"

"It's just the rules of the game, Elena."

"That you made up!"

"True, but it's still the rules."

"When does it end?" Damien asks, somehow with a smile on his face, and a bit of lettuce on his teeth but that's unimportant.

"Here's the thing. Whoever falls in love first? Loses."

Elena is in December of eighth grade - the last year of middle school - and to make it the most exotic year, one of her three best friends, Sierra, decided to make her play a game...

With her other best friend, Damien.

Forcing them to play a game where they have to act like a couple until the end of the year. It's just 6 months until the end of May. And whoever falls in love first loses.

Sierra is watching them, making sure they follow the rules to the end. One of them saying: kiss.

While Maya is just along for the ride, causing chaos in Elena's mind with her distant glances.

Will they play along? How long will they put up with this? And will they make it to the end without ending the game?
