Chasing the Sun

From the moment Vieanna was born, every detail of her existence was calculated from the softness of her breathing to the frequency of her blinks. Her father was obsessed with death, not death itself, but the noble glory that came with it. Determined to create the perfect soldier, he molded Vieanna into a weapon whose only purpose was war and sacrifice.

Raised in a world where death was not a possibility but a promise, Vieanna developed a fear that contradicted everything she had been created to be. Yet it was not her own death she feared most. More than anything, she longed for the death of the violence within her the end of the soldier she had been forced to become and for the innocence she had never been allowed to keep. But how could that die without one last sacrifice?

A glorious death on the battlefield would prove that her life had fulfilled its intended purpose. But a quieter end, one not with the bravery of a soldier but with the grace of a child, would prove something far greater, her life was worth more than the grim triumph others had chosen for her and instead proof she was worthy of escaping that fear and returning to her innocence.
