There is a specific kind of loss that doesn't announce itself.

No grief. No wound. No moment you can point to and say - there, that's where it happened. Just the quiet, persistent wrongness of a life that fits correctly on paper and slightly off everywhere else. Jade wakes up and most of herself is there.

She tells herself that's enough.

She goes back to the Corps. She files her reports and runs her drills and stands in formation and does everything right - because whatever she's missing, she hasn't lost the discipline. Hasn't lost the instinct. Her body knows things her mind can't fully account for and she has learned, quickly and without examining why she learned it so quickly, not to look at that too directly.

Then she meets Captain Levi Ackerman across a briefing table and something in her chest does something she doesn't authorize.

She files it.
