A Familiar Warmth

He never woke up... but I never left.
The hospital still feels the same-cold lights, distant beeping, a silence that never really changes.

Two years later, I still end up in his room, still sitting beside his bed, still talking like he might answer.

Some days it feels like time moved on without me. Other days, it feels like I never left that first moment.

Will he ever wake up... or is this just the kind of waiting that never ends?

And if he does come back to me-will anything really go back to how it was before?

Or will everything finally fall apart the moment he sees what I've become in his absence... and realizes I'm not the same person he left behind.
