In the heart of Phoenix, Cheyenne Hernandez shines as the city's beloved Afro-Latina princess. At seventeen and wrapping up her senior year of high school, Chey has always kept her spirit bright despite her parents' divorce when she was ten. She bounces between her dad's lively, full house with his new family and her mom's quiet home shared only with her brother. Through it all, Chey stays resilient, surrounded by her tight-knit group of best friends since third grade.

One of those friends is Ricardo Torres, known as Ricky to everyone who matters. Ricky once lived for baseball, a five-star athlete with a full ride to Arizona State University and dreams of making it to the MLB. That all shattered this summer at baseball camp when a devastating grade three ACL and MCL tear ended his playing days for good. Forced to confront a future without the game he loved, Ricky made the toughest decision of his life. He walked away from his scholarship and enrolled in a Pharmacy Tech program alongside Chey.
