In the year 2143, everything is different.
At birth, every individual has a chip, or 'Node', if you will, implanted into their brains. The workers at the Instability Complex observe every persons chip, 24/7.
The nodes track a persons emotions, with the goal of erasing all negative emotions to protect the city and help the citizens remain happy. Every day, they all get an individual score that reports back emotions and warnings. The higher the score, the safer you are.
Often, scores vary, with businessmen and lawyers, or other members of the upper class receiving scores closer to the maximum of 1000, as the society believes money is a cure-all.
Others, however receive lower scores. This includes those in poverty or that of a lower class job. Lower scores mean more warnings. The Instability Complex has been told by the government not to tolerate low scores. 150 and below.
They disappear.
Silas Weaver is a highly valued employee at the Instability Complex. he heads the department tracking the section of the city with the lowest scores. He's constantly losing people to keep track of. certainly not because he's bad at his job. he's actually quite good.
It's because the scores are so low.
One group living in that part knows it. And they know they'll be gone soon enough.
Then one day... They are. Not low scores. Not from any day before this. They've managed to keep it above 400. Somehow.
No. Silas still has tracking on the people that disappeared. he just can't find this group. At all. Gone like sodium in water.
So he sets out to find them. Needs to if he wants to keep his job.
Needs to if he wants to save his life. because every action of the workers at the complex is controlled. Decisions they make aren't theirs, and thinking on their own is thought to cause mayhem.
Mayhem may be all that's left to save this fucked up city.
