They began as strangers.

Two names on a contract. No love. No choice. Just walls and silence and the careful distance of two people who had decided not to need each other.

They did not plan to fall.

They fell anyway.

One carried a child through fire and danger while the other stood between his family and everything that wanted to destroy them. One learned to leave a cup out every morning. The other learned to notice it.
