What Makes a Family

Izuku Midoriya thought being accepted into U.A. would be the happiest day of his life.

Instead, it was the day he lost his home.

Never believing in her son's dream of becoming a hero, Inko Midoriya gives Izuku an ultimatum after his acceptance into U.A.'s Hero Course as a quirkless student: leave quietly and never tell anyone the truth. In exchange, she allows him to keep using her address so no one suspects he's been abandoned.

With nowhere else to go, Izuku learns to survive on his own while hiding the truth from his classmates and teachers. For a while, he manages to keep the secret buried.

Then Katsuki Bakugo's life falls apart too.

After learning the extent of Katsuki's years of bullying, Mitsuki Bakugo sends her son away to live with a relative, convinced that distance is what they both need. But the home she's chosen for him is anything but safe. Neglected, mistreated, and alone, Katsuki eventually runs away.

The last person he expects to find living on the streets is Izuku Midoriya.

Forced together by circumstances neither of them wanted, the two former enemies form an uneasy alliance. As villain attacks grow more dangerous and life at U.A. becomes increasingly demanding, they struggle to balance hero training with the daily reality of having no place to call home.

They tell themselves they can survive until graduation.
