TEASER SCENE:

Claire laughed lightly. "I'm far from perfect," she looked down. "You know everything about me, Duncan. The good, the bad and the ugly. You know about everything I've been through growing up... the things I had to do for my sister. I feel like I don't know anything about you."

"If you knew any more, you'd be running," he confessed wearily, and gazed into her sad blue eyes.

"Tell me anyway. Tell me what's so bad about the calm and patient Duncan Lombardi that would ever make me want to run," she said with a hint of amusement in her voice.

He was quiet. "I love you, can that be enough?"

Claire sighed quietly in defeat. "I don't have a choice, do I?"

Duncan waited a few moments for himself to think of what to say or her to say something else, such as that she loved him too, but neither happened. The possibility of Claire leaving him went through his mind. That if she were to find out about his real work, something he'd kept from her for almost six years, she would never return. Last night when she didn't come off the platform, he felt a sliver of what it'd feel like if she never took his hand again. For the first time, he felt an emotion he couldn't explain.
