I push through the event hall doors, heels clicking on the polished floor as I step into the cold night air. The noise behind me fades, replaced by the sharp flick of a lighter.
'Why did I even start this?'
I drag in the first breath of smoke, letting it burn down my throat. It doesn't calm me. not when my blood is boiling.
Through the tiny crack of the door, I see him. Mr. Delante. Laughing. Smiling. His arm draped around his wife like the perfect man, the perfect husband. The perfect monster.
My nails dig into the cigarette as anger floods my veins. He shouldn't be laughing. He shouldn't even be breathing.
I slam the burning tip into my palm. The pain is sharp, almost unbearable, but it reminds me why I'm here. Why I joined this dirty game in the first place.
Not for power. Not for glory.
For revenge.
"For my parents," I whisper through clenched teeth. "For my little brother. For every sleepless night."
He thinks he's safe in his glass castle.
But I'm already inside.
And when I'm done, he'll feel pain so deep, he'll wish he never crossed paths with me.
This is war. And I'm going to win.
