When Daenerys Targaryen died, the gods frowned.
She had been the Princess That Was Promised-the savior foretold in ancient prophecy, the very figure whom Aegon the Conqueror had glimpsed in his dream of ice and fire. She had been brought into the harsh and treacherous world of Westeros to usher in an age of peace and prosperity.
Yet she had failed.
In the heavens above, the gods convened a great council to determine the fate of the fallen princess. Most argued that her story had reached its end and that she should pass beyond the veil. Only two stood against them: Arrax, god of law, order, justice, and governance, and Balerion, god of death and the underworld.
Together, they pleaded her case.
At last, the council agreed to grant Daenerys a second chance-but only under a condition proposed by Arrax and Balerion themselves.

She would be cast back into an age long before her own birth, sent to aid her ancestors in the aftermath of a war that had forever shaped the destiny of House Targaryen, while also struggling against the slow, creeping unraveling of their rule in Westeros and the forces that would one day bring their dominion to an end. There, she would face trials greater than any she had endured before. And to ensure that fate could not be so easily bent, she would undertake this journey with little more than fragments of her former life, her memories scattered like ashes upon the wind.

And so began the long, arduous, and extraordinary, second life of Daenerys Targaryen.
