Jax wakes up in a lab with no memories, no clue what he looks like, and nobody particularly nice willing to help him. All he's got is a new boss full of secrets, weirdly good reflexes, and a girl who flinches every time he goes near her. He doesn't know who's good or bad, just that they want to use him... or help him. He's hoping they want to help him.
Clara's been looking for her technologically enhanced boyfriend ever since her agency's standoff with the evil Copenhagen, who she soon realizes brainwashed Jackson, and is trying to get him to kill her. The agency says to end him, he's too dangerous, and he's a born killer, but Clara always saw the humanity in him, the part where he wasn't a soldier, just a regular guy. She knows she can't do it, so she has no choice but to try to remind Jackson of his old life, working for the agency, stopping mob bosses, crime lords, and investigating the supernatural.
Jax makes a stupid mistake; he listens to the girl who's probably also trying to kill him. For some reason, everyone's like that now, and let's her drag him away somewhere she claims is safe, then drops the bomb that now Sienna, who just stopped icing him out, and his new boss, want him dead also. He's on the run from some agency, which Clara claims he worked for, and it's why he's got all these heightened senses, along with his new boss, who he happens to like a lot, Mr. Copenhagen.
