Two childhood friends, now grown up and with life in a mess, make two separate new year's resolution that makes them a permanent fixture in each other's life. Lan Wangji is a divorcee whose wife left him calling him emotionally unavailable and impotent. Wangji's older brother Lan Xichen is married with a child and his uncle Lan Qiren decides to marry Qiren's childhood sweetheart after her husband passed away of old age. Lan Wangji realizes he has nothing to look forward to in his old age. He resolves to live each day to the fullest to have memories to reminisce when he is older. Wei Wuxian, a workaholic, alcoholic and a habitual flirt is still recovering from the death of his older sister in a car accident ten years ago. Wuxian was driving drunk. Wei Wuxian makes a new year's resolution to give up alcohol and get in shape and have a serious relationship. Both men end up meeting at the fruit stall where it is Lan Wangji who recognizes Wei Ying as the boy from sixth grade who used to really annoy Wangji. As Wangji talks about his new year resolution to make new memories Wei Wuxian explains how he's trying to give up alcohol, that too without rehab, Lan Wangji offers to be Wuxian's accountability partner and the best way to be accountable is to live together.
