Emma Swan was just trying to get through a bad storm when her car slid past a faded sign reading Welcome to Storybrooke. It should have been an impossible turn, but suddenly she's stuck in a bizarre Maine town where the residents are adjusting to a freshly broken curse, unironically introducing themselves as "Snow White," and talking about magic as if it's the weather.

As Emma begrudgingly tries to find her footing, she discovers a truth that shatters her entire reality: the local schoolteacher and the deputy are actually the fairy tale parents who abandoned her twenty-two years ago. But while she struggles to accept that she belongs with the heroes, Emma finds herself relentlessly drawn to Regina Mills-the fierce, guarded Mayor who is entirely focused on protecting her biological son, Henry.
