The mountains remembered. They remembered every oath sworn beneath their shadows. Every funeral prayer whispered into the wind. Every mother who stood at her doorway waiting for footsteps that never returned. And every drop of blood that had soaked into the earth between two tribes who no longer remembered why they hated each other. The feud had begun long before Sikander Waliullah Khan was born. Long before Mahur Shahabudin Khan learned to walk. Long before their fathers inherited the burden from the men who came before them. It had survived generations. It had outlived reason. The people called it honor. The mountains called it repetition. One grave became two. Two became ten. Ten became so many that no one could remember which death had demanded the first revenge. Only that revenge was always demanded. On one side of the border stood the Khans. On the other stood the men who had sworn never to bow before them. Between them lay orchards, fields, and graves. Too many graves. For decades, sons inherited wars they never started. Fathers buried boys they had once carried on their shoulders. And mothers learned to pray with fear hidden beneath every word. Then, one day, fate grew tired of following old rules. A son who hated blood met a daughter who questioned war. A boy raised on loss met a girl raised on inherited hatred. Neither understood it then. Neither knew that a single meeting beneath an apple tree would shake promises older than both their families. Because sometimes, the most dangerous thing in a land built on revenge is not a gun. It is hope. And hope had just crossed the border.
