The Echoing Red

He opened his eyes again to see death but infront of him was a small brown bird. It stood carefully on his chest, tiny claws gripping the damaged fabric of his suit. Brown feathers shimmered softly beneath the strange golden light filtering through the trees.The creature tilted its head slightly while looking at him with tiny dark eyes. Everything felt impossibly painful in that moment but the presence of that tiny creature had ignited jimin's dull heart on fire. That tiny living thing looked impossibly beautiful in that horrible place, the most beautiful. In that fragile moment-he wanted to hold it. Wanted warmth. Wanted something alive beside him.

His cracked lips parted slowly. "So..." His voice came out rough and broken. "...you came to take my life, pretty bird?"
The bird chirped softly, a tiny sound consumed his whole existence. Like roots of the tree consume the hard ground.
