Four years ago, Jacob JJ Harrens kissed me on the blue bench at Pine-Hollow Pond, called me little Lou, and left Brookside Lane before I could decide if it meant everything or nothing. I spent the next years pretending one summer could not follow me around like a secret I was too embarrassed to admit I kept.

Then JJ comes back after his father's death - older, quieter, impossible to read - and suddenly the boy I tried to forget is standing too close, remembering too much, and making every almost feel dangerous. With school two weeks away and Sarah asking questions I am not ready to answer, I know JJ did not come back for me... so why does it feel like he remembers the same story?
