Having a dead beat father like Lonnie has its perks and Avery definitely doesn't wanna be anything like him because he earns the award for being the worst father ever but that's besides Avery's problems once he lets move her in with Joyce around the time of Will's disappearance and she becomes her legal guardian after her mother's tragic passing.

Life seemed to be good for Avery although there's a few odd things happening in Hawkins every now and then. She slowly started to make friends with kids her own age and gets herself a summer job at Scoops Ahoy.

Her unquieted crush on Steve doesn't go unnoticed by Robin who constantly tenses Avery for it any opportunity she gets despite Avery's annoyance by Robin's daily presence and sarcastic wit. Once The Starcourt Mall becomes under attack by Russian soviet forces Avery's newfound attraction for Robin start to surface and it's hard to ignore.
