"I cannot be with you. It is not- It is not right," Klaus says his voice quiet as tears brim his eyes and threaten to spill. Mariam looks up at him her cheeks already damp from the tears falling. His hands fall from her face as his eyes drop to the floor. Mariam watches as he turns and begins to walk away.
"Nik, please! You cannot leave me here! I won't allow it!" Mariam yells after him. He stops his eyes not leaving the floor.
"I am not asking for your permission," he mumbles lowly. Mariam strides toward him grabbing his forearm making him turn to face her.
"Then tell me Nik. Tell me you do not love me!"
"That does not matter!" Klaus watches as she flinches back as he yells watching a tear fall from his eye. He steps towards her, their bodies stilling as their eyes bore into each other. Klaus' hand reaches to Mariams cheek cupping it as his thumb wipes a tear that falls. She leans into his touch closing her eyes.
"Please. Please do not leave me," Mariam whispers, lip quivering as her voice shakes.
"I will ruin you Mariam. I will dim your brightness. You are sunshine, light," he pauses as he sighs and brings his forehead to her. "You are my sunshine. My warmth, my light. But I cannot love you knowing that my darkness may take all of that from you, from me, from us all."
Mariam raises her eyes to meet his as her hand goes to his cheek. "I am willing to let that all go if it means I will be by your side. I would give my own life if it meant not living a moment without you. If it means ruining me to be with you then let me be completely and utterly destroyed." she says before bringing her lips to his.
