In a small town lived a young man named David Okoro.
David Okoro was intelligent, talented, and full of ideas. His teachers often said he had the potential to become someone great. Yet, year after year, nothing seemed to change in his life.
His classmates started businesses, earned scholarships, and achieved remarkable things. David remained where he was.
One evening, while sitting outside his modest home, he complained to an elderly carpenter named Baba Samuel.
"People keep telling me I have potential," David said. "If I truly have it, why am I not successful?"
The old man smiled and pointed toward a beautiful lantern hanging in his workshop.
"Do you see that lantern?"
"Yes," David replied.
"It is one of the brightest lanterns ever made. But if I never light it, what value does its brightness have?"
David thought for a moment but remained silent.
The old man continued.
"Many people are like that lantern. They possess gifts, talents, intelligence, and opportunities. But they lack the spark that brings everything to life."
"What spark?" David asked.
"Passion."
The word echoed in David's mind.
Baba Samuel stood and led him into the workshop. There were tools everywhere-hammers, saws, measuring tapes, and unfinished furniture.
"These tools can create beautiful things," the old man explained. "But they do nothing by themselves. Someone must use them with enthusiasm and purpose."
Then he looked directly into David's eyes.
"Your potential is the tool. Your passion is the hand that uses it."
