Julian Lawless and Rebecca Browning once had the kind of love people write movies about. He was a brilliant lawyer from a traditional, working-class family. She was a successful film producer raised in a wealthy and artistic household. Against their families' wishes, they followed their hearts, convinced that love would conquer every difference. For a while, it did. But two years into their marriage, the fairy tale has become a battlefield. Every visit with their families ends in arguments. Their opposing values clash at every turn. Misunderstandings grow into resentment, resentment turns into bitterness, and rumors of infidelity spread through their workplaces until trust becomes impossible. Soon, the couple can barely stand being in the same room together. Determined to end their unhappy marriage, Julian and Rebecca file for divorce. After appearing in court, they are granted a mandatory thirty-day cooling-off period before the divorce can be finalized. Furious and exhausted, they leave the courthouse arguing one last time-only for tragedy to strike when a truck crashes into their car. When they awaken in a Seattle hospital, neither remembers the other. The accident has erased not only their memories of marriage, but also every grudge, argument, and heartbreak that pushed them apart. Following medical advice, the families are forced to keep the couple living together while they recover under the supervision of Rebecca's spirited younger sister, Sienna. Hoping to restore their memories, friends and relatives recount stories from their past, recreate important moments, and even attempt unconventional therapies. But something unexpected happens. Instead of remembering why they wanted a divorce, Julian and Rebecca begin falling in love all over again. In a near-future Washington D.C., the Grid - a semi-sentient AGI wrapped around the planet - monitors all resonance events and supernatural activity. Into this world walks Reynar Edge, a man three years removed from a death he shouldn't have survived, carrying a resonance signature the Grid has no category for. A chance encounter at Club Ruin sets everything in motion. A void-tainted capsule tears a teenager apart from the inside, drawing Reynar out of the shadows - and into the crosshairs of Agent Kira Sullivan of the DPS, the Department of Paranormal Surveillance, a deeply classified USAP. Kira has been watching Reynar. So has someone else: Aviv Hanou, an operative carrying a kill order with his name on it. Both threads circle the same source - Legion. A designer resonance drug unlike anything the Grid has flagged before, not manufactured through traditional means, and moving through D.C.'s underground with purpose. The DPS response is to go deeper. Commander Berrick sanctions the creation of Edge Unit - a USAP within a USAP - built around Reynar, Kira, and a small team of operatives willing to go where the official record can't follow. They trace Legion to Nullphram, a pharmaceutical front using the drug as a delivery system for something far darker. The trail ends at a gala in Leesburg, a voidbeast unleashed in the basement, and a fight that costs everyone something. They win the battle. But the war has barely introduced itself.
