The river where we grew up Every town has a story it keeps hidden beneath the sound of running water. Alfred and Darcia grew up in a small riverside town where summers seemed endless and the world felt no bigger than the broken wooden bridge stretching across the river. Year after year, they met there beneath the golden evening sky, sharing dreams too large for a town too small. Sitting on weathered planks, they made a promise that seemed impossible to break: But time has a way of rewriting promises. As the years pass, Alfred earns a scholarship that carries him far beyond the river and into a life he once only imagined. Darcia stays behind, sacrificing her own dreams to care for the family that depends on her. Though distance separates them, letters become their bridge-filled with memories, confessions, and all the words they never learned to say aloud. Then, slowly, the letters begin to arrive less often. Life moves forward. Seasons change. The river keeps flowing. Years later, haunted by memories he can no longer outrun, Alfred returns to the town he left behind. Yet the place he remembers is fading. The old bridge where they spent every summer was destroyed years ago in a devastating flood, leaving only fragments of wood swallowed by the river. As Alfred searches through the ruins of the past, he uncovers a truth that no one ever told him: Darcia had spent her final years trying to rebuild the bridge they once called their own. Not because the town needed it-but because it was the last promise she still believed in. Among her belongings lies one final letter addressed to Alfred. A letter that waited years to be read. As its words unfold, Alfred discovers that some loves are not measured by years spent together, but by the promises carried alone. And some people never truly leave us-they remain in the places they loved, in the rivers that remember them, and in the words that arrive far too late. • MY OWM CREATION
