At sixteen years old, Aaliyah "Liya" St. Clair is living the dream she once only imagined.

As the youngest member and lead singer of Velvet Sunrise, the Motown trio she shares with her sisters Celeste and Monique, she has spent nearly a decade growing up in the spotlight. From their first album in 1970 to hit records, the St. Clair sisters have become one of Motown's brightest acts.

But fame brought something else into Aaliyah's life.

In 1970, she and her sisters met Michael and Jackie Jackson, forming an instant friendship that grew through years of letters, phone calls, and visits. Two years later, after moving to California, the girls met the rest of the Jackson brothers, and the two families quickly became inseparable.

As the years passed, Velvet Sunrise and the Jacksons crossed paths everywhere-concerts and award shows where their friendship became stories.

Now, in 1976, the opportunity of a lifetime arrives.

While everyone else sees a reunion between friends, Aaliyah notices something different.
