At Northwood High, Maya lives in the spotlight. Dakota hides behind the lens.

Maya Mendoza has it all: she's the undisputed beauty queen and star volleyball captain. But her flawless image hides a ticking clock. Her parents are forcing her to quit sports for college next year, and with her powerhouse team suddenly gutted by graduation, her desperate final season is already crumbling.

Dakota Yellowbird is a ghost, and he prefers it that way. Since his mother's death and his father's retreat into endless work, Dakota avoids everyone, finding solace only in taking and editing photos.

When Dakota is roped into becoming the team's official photographer, their worlds violently collide. Maya is fierce and demanding; Dakota is quiet and guarded. They can't stop bickering, yet underneath the constant clashes, they're fighting the exact same loneliness. As the season's end draws near, Dakota will have to step out of the darkroom-and Maya might just find the one person who sees her perfectly in focus.
