Berlin, 2009. The year Tokio Hotel conquered Europe and Blair Caldwell conquered the runway-five-foot-six of brunette ambition wrapped in Victoria's Secret wings and a don't-touch-me glare that keeps the world exactly where she wants it: at arm's length.

She's the "it girl" with the green eyes and the hourglass waist, the model who eats nothing and works constantly and still has photographers calling her "the next big thing." He's the guitarist with the braids and the lip ring, the one who stands stage-left while his twin brother Bill commands the spotlight, the one who writes the riffs but lets someone else sing the words.

They meet on set for Vogue Germany-Tokio Hotel as the "rock aesthetic," Blair as the supermodel who was supposed to be professional. She's not supposed to notice the way his fingers move on the neck of his guitar. He's not supposed to notice that she knows exactly which chord he's playing when he thinks no one's listening.

Georg Listing watches from the edge of the set, bass strapped over his shoulder, exchanging looks with Gustav Schäfer behind the drum kit. The twins have always been a unit-Tom and Bill, light and shadow, sound and fury-but Blair Caldwell walks into the frame like she owns the lens, and suddenly Tom can't remember where he's supposed to stand.

She's not looking for a rockstar. He's not looking for a muse. But the camera loves them together, and somewhere between the flashbulbs and the hotel afterparties where Georg plays mediator and Gustav keeps the beat, the lines between performance and reality start to blur.
