Summer should be my new beginning.
Nothing special. Just make up for the one math exam I missed, and then enjoy the rest of the holidays.
No drama.
No bad decisions.
No distractions.
Then I was assigned to a school project with Jace Bryce.
Jace Bryce? The boy the whole school was talking about. The guy who was constantly causing trouble, showed up late for class and still somehow got away with it.
I only knew him by sight. He was a class above me and our worlds couldn't have been more different.
But suddenly I spent every day with him.
Between summer school, endless afternoons in his uncle's workshop, summer evenings on empty parking spaces and conversations that should never have taken place, I began to forget why I wanted to stay away from him.
The more time I spent with Jace, the harder it became to hate the boy everyone thought was a problem.
Because behind his bad reputation was hiding someone who hardly anyone really knew.
And maybe that was my biggest mistake.
Because summer is ending.
And some people leave traces that even autumn cannot make disappear.
