The Balcony Between Us

Ivy Grace has finally won the war. The stars have finally aligned. Or in her language, the Lord has finally answered her prayer.

After a year of disappointment and unemployment, Ivy lands a job as a pharmacist. New city, new apartment, new chance to start over. She fills her balcony with fairy lights and vines, her kitchen with green-and-gold countertops, and a vase of blue-and-white peonies she prays will "last for a month." For the first time in a long time, Ivy feels like she's winning.

Then she meets Yusuf Demirci.

He's the neighbor next door with the deep voice, golden skin, wavy, jet black hair , the "Mhhh" that drives her crazy, and blue eyes that notice everything. A literal dream. Ivy knows better than to want him. Love has always been her weakness - she falls too fast, hopes too hard, still believe in fairytakes and her heart bruises easily. And Yusuf? He's all three things she swore she'd avoid: the handsome ones, the ones who might be Muslim, the ones who might be married. He could break her.

So she does what she always does when something feels too good: she prays him away.

"Lord, if our interactions are not going to lead to anything long term... take Yusuf out of my life. Amen."

But God's answers rarely look like we expect them.

As Ivy settles into her new job and wrestles with faith, conviction, and the ache to be loved, she'll have to decide: Was God's "no" protection... or was He teaching her how to stay? Because some wars aren't won by running. They're won by not disappearing.
