The story follows the character of Ward, a rather grisly and dismal ensign to the mysterious Red Band. A mercenary group devoted to eliminating magic users from the world, and preventing another awakening.  However when a job goes wrong, Ward is thrust into a world that not even he can begin to understand. Stopping a war he has no business in and surviving as long as he can. What will ward do, what can the world do if the rifts are to reawaken?
