She smelled like Marlboros and Yves Saint Laurent and silky cognac, Luce thought. Like Dubai skies and paper dreams and chlorinated ashes. (Together, they would jump off the skies because there was no line to tip-toe on, to tip-toe-tight-rope up the stairs of heaven.) It wasn't a love story; an elegy; a requiem; a dirge or lament. It was a declaration!
