A Problem Of Assignment

Sergeant Karl Gehrig had seen enough of war to know that spoiled rich kids didn't survive the Eastern Front. So when sixteen-year-old Niklas 'Nico' von Versen showed up at his gate, barely alive, on a fancy horse, Karl knew he was looking at trouble.

He was cocky. He was reckless. He sang off-key in the hayloft at midnight, stole schnapps from the cook, and was terrible at taking orders. Nico drove Karl absolutely crazy. He also had a gift with horses that Karl had never seen, and a stubbornness that reminded Karl of someone he used to be.

But the troublesome brat also had the knowledge and skills to become a scout and spy working behind enemy lines. Nico's missions are some of the most dangerous in the unit. And a bond forged in mud and gunfire formed between Nico and Karl. A family built from broken pieces.
