Kaida is a Dragon Rider of the Ashlands, fierce, proud, and fiercely loyal to her harsh, volcanic homeland. She spends her days patrolling the sky on her obsidian dragon, Cinder, guarding the borders against the wealthy, arrogant kingdom of Oakhaven. To her, the knights of Oakhaven are nothing but fragile politicians hiding behind polished silver armor.

Sir Tristan is Oakhaven's finest-a legendary knight of the Royal Guard, disciplined, elite, and entirely dedicated to his crown. When strange, dark anomalies begin tearing through the border mountain ridge, threating both realms, the High Council forces the two kingdoms into an uneasy truce.

Their solution? A joint patrol.

Bound by a decree neither can refuse, Kaida and Tristan are forced to work side-by-side to track down a threat that could destroy them both. But with generations of hatred between their people and personalities that clash like steel on flint, surviving the assignment is only half the battle. Tristan thinks Kaida is a lawless savage; Kaida thinks Tristan is a pompous tyrant.

As the danger deepens and secrets are unearthed, the fragile truce begins to fracture. In a game of survival where one wrong move means death, they must learn to trust each other-or watch both their kingdoms burn.
