As a candlemaker's apprentice, Osric von Helgen, once the son of an esteemed nobleman left with neither title nor fortune, has sworn to tend the flames until his last breath and never question the magic entrusted to his order. That is, until he discovers a candle that should have gone out four hundred years ago ─ its wax having never melted nor its flame ever extinguished.
Unable to ignore what should be impossible, Osric follows a trail that leads beyond the safety of the kingdom, guiding him towards a mystery that should have long been buried.
