In the sweltering heat of a Louisiana summer, one woman's casual cruelty sets in motion a nightmare that will consume her marriage, her pride, and her very sense of self. Karen Thompson runs her street like she runs her life: with sharp words, colder silences, and an unshakeable belief that she is always right. When she throws her flip-flop at her quiet neighbor Ray Boubreaux, she thinks nothing of it. Just another day of putting someone in their place. But Ray is not like the others she has bullied into submission. He is patient. He is watching. And his patience has run out. What begins as a petty dispute over lawn ornaments and property lines soon becomes something far darker as Karen's husband Mike, passive and shame-ridden, can only watch.
