Changing Destinies

My name is Jack, and I'm an illegitimate child.
Since I was little, my mom has always told me: "You have to be better than everyone else. Only then will the Frost family acknowledge you."
So I studied like my life depended on it, always taking first place in exams-just so one day I could walk into the Frost family's house with my head held high.
But today I found out-I'm nothing more than a villainous side character in a novel!
I was standing on stage as the freshman representative. Below was a sea of people, countless eyes staring at me like knives, ready to slice apart the perfect image I had worked so hard to maintain.
I read those lofty, noble lines with confidence-"study hard," "serve society," "pursue excellence."
Suddenly, a sharp pain exploded in my temple, as if someone had split my skull open with an axe.
Fragments of images flashed before my eyes-
Elsa, the transfer student who always kept her head down when walking through the hallway. Her eyes were damp, like a kitten caught in the rain.
Hans, a boy who was both a stranger and oddly familiar. His earring gleamed coldly under the sunlight as he pinched Elsa's chin and smirked at me. "She's mine."
And then, myself-kneeling in a pool of blood, a knife in my chest, while Elsa's hands trembled as she held a gun.
Bang!
The gunshot roared through my mind. I snapped back to reality, realizing I had already finished reading my speech. The audience erupted into applause, but my back was drenched in sweat, my shirt clinging to my skin like a layer of cold snakeskin.
I had seen my future.
