What do we really remember from childhood?

Growing up in communist Poland, the author pieces together a childhood from fragments-some painfully clear, others blurred by time. Memory becomes unreliable, humour softens tragedy, and ordinary family stories slowly turn into something larger: a novel about loss, growing up, and trying to understand people long after they are gone.
