Daisy Bennett was supposed to know better.

Good girls did not climb into cars with boys like Joe Jonas. They did not sneak away from drive-in diners, kiss in the dark during picture shows, or let a summer boy with a leather jacket and a dangerous smile make them forget every rule they had ever been taught.

But Joe was not like anyone Daisy had ever known.

He was trouble, yes. Everyone said so. Her parents saw it in the way he looked at her. Her friends saw it in the way she stopped pretending not to want him. Daisy saw it too, from the very first night he found her at the jukebox and asked her what song she was choosing.

She should have walked away.

Instead, she fell.
