Alexander Reid lives to climb the corporate ladder. He enjoys his solitude, his routine, and thrives in it. After six years at his company and endless hours committed to nothing but the office, he is eager for an upcoming promotion. But when he overhears doubts regarding his lack of stability and 'humanity,' he fears his promotion may be at risk.

Harper Scott is new to town, having quit her marketing job, breaking up with her stifling boyfriend, and moving across the country to start over. She works part-time as a waitress while she attempts to create her event planning business. Harper is too busy for a love life, but that doesn't stop her Connecticut family from badgering her about when she'll finally settle down.

When Alex and Harper run into eachother at Harper's bar and realize they both have something to gain from being in a relationship neither of them desire, they do the only logical thing there is to do: fake date. But, the only thing blurrier than the rules of a fake relationship are the emotions, and Alex and Harper are no stranger to that lesson.
