Signed Sands

A scapegoating incident led Aito Sasaki to flee to the Province of Cebu, specifically to his beachside villa on Olango Island, for a three-month hiatus from his line of work. He thought resting on the peaceful island would save him enough energy and replenish his strength, only to be disrupted by rowdy, noisy, and rude little children on his beachfront every day.

Once he found a chance to intimidate the children, he found them sitting under a tree with a young man who could not speak. His delicate hands moved gracefully in the air. His fingers were as if speaking tiny words only he and the children understood. His face, like a golden pearl, changed mood with every hand gesture he made.

Wonderstruck, Aito knew he would not be speaking with his own voice, but with his stiff hands, too.
