Brayden let out a hollow laugh, one that carried no amusement.

"You hurt me," he said quietly.

Vivianna's lips trembled as tears blurred her vision.

"You hurt me too."

The words settled between them like broken glass.

"So... that's it?" he asked, his voice barely above a whisper. "After everything, that's all we are? Two people who hurt each other?"

Vivianna opened her mouth, but nothing came out. Instead, silence answered for her.

Brayden gave a slow nod, mistaking it for her answer.

"I would've spent my whole life trying to love you right," he whispered, his eyes glistening. "But maybe... we were never meant to know how."

A tear slipped down Vivianna's cheek as she finally found her voice.

"I don't know how to let you go."

His eyes met hers again, full of the same heartbreak reflected in her own.

"And I don't know how to keep holding on."

For the first time, neither of them moved toward the other.

And somehow, that hurt more than every goodbye they'd ever said.
