"Hello Courier. We meet at last." The fox hooded man stepped forward, voice breathy and almost seductive.
Vulpes Inculta. Cesar's most trusted advisor, and leader of the Frumentarii. His eyes were shielded by sunglasses but I knew they burned into mine.
The stench of burning corpses filled the air. The men whose bodies became the crosses they lied on, groaned in agony. They didn't dare beg to be put out of their misery within earshot of the Legion.
My voice caught in my throat, fear sank through me. Vulpes's eyes peaked over his sunglasses, now I see him. Those soulless bright blue eyes fit him. His lips curled into a sickening smirk, the sight sent a chill down my spine.
Legs froze in place, I could hardly breathe, my heart felt like it was 10,000 pounds. I waited for what felt like hours, days, months, Vulpes didn't utter another word. His abnormally blue orbs reflected the flames that brewed around him and the rest of the Legion squad. He stepped forward, I shuffled back, my body was repelled by him. His demeanor intriguing yet horrifying. He finally slithered close enough, backing me into a building. Vulpes towered over, using all tactics of intimidation. Placing a gentle hand on the scorched bricks above my head entrapping me, he finally spoke
"Cesar could make good use of you. Don't be rash in choosing 'the bear'." Vulpes's tongue flicked as his words were coated in sickly sweet venom. His hand pulled away from the dirty bricks, brushing it against his Roman attire. "I bid you Vale, see you soon. Little courier." the new nickname grazed his lips naturally, churning my stomach with anxiety in the process. Vulpes's skirt swayed as he walked away, finally giving me space to breathe.
God, if you are truly listening, please smite that man.
