Mind Shattering

Maverik Gilbert thought himself crazy. He grew up with his parents calling him sick; he grew up trying different antipsychotics that never seemed to work in the ways they were meant to. That was the not-so-secret-secret the playboy, sports star of Mystic Falls, 'hid' from everyone. But people knew, when they saw him whispering to himself, they knew. When they saw his silent anger, they knew, and when he took his anger out on the field, they knew.

Then there was Henrik Mikealson, the man who haunted Maverick, crept into his dreams, and followed him around during the day. He remembered the day that he 'died' like it was yesterday. He and Niklaus left to watch the beasts turn, and he was attacked. He remembered how Niklaus carried him home as he choked on his own blood; he remembered how his mother begged the witches for help and how they answered.
The solution: Vampirism. And at his brother's mercy, he ended up daggered. But 300 years spent in a box was lonely work, and the siphon only had one solution to temporarily escape the agonizing loneliness, an anchor. Maverick... and Henrik became obsessed.

The question is, will this obsession push Maverick to madness, or the happy ending he didn't know he needed?
