Reece Keller is a Chicago police lieutenant who believes rules matter-especially inside his home. Svetlana is the heir to the gang. she is 14, defiant, reckless with her health, and unused to being told no by anyone besides her father. She has been training since before she can remember to take over and it's all she's ever known. Alek is 15, protective, and simmering with anger he doesn't know where to put while Natasha, Svets identical twin sister who's always been the one left out isnt sure what to think of the new environment. she doesn't know much about the gang and svetlana has been determined to keep her out of it. Caught in the middle is Miles, the Kellers' current foster son, who watches as the new kids arrive, unsure whether to welcome them or resent them while struggling with addiction. As boundaries are tested and trust comes slowly, Reece and Helen have to balance discipline with compassion, safety with freedom, and authority with care.
