Jacob arrives in Mystic Falls hoping for a fresh start, but the town remembers more about him than he remembers about it. Taken in by the Lockwoods, he becomes the newest face in a family that smiles for the public and whispers behind closed doors. His mother once looked at their mansion like it held answers she was afraid to face, and now Jacob is living inside those answers without knowing the questions. He is the new kid trying to blend in, but the town's eyes linger on him a little too long, as if waiting for something to surface. Mystic Falls is a place built on old stories, missing people, and secrets that never stay buried. As Jacob settles into school and the Lockwood household, strange moments begin to follow him - a cold ripple when someone touches him, a name spoken in hushed tones, a sense that he is connected to something he doesn't understand. The truth about his mother, the Lockwood legacy, and the town's supernatural undercurrent is waiting just beneath the surface, ready to pull him in the moment he stops pretending everything is fine.

A small karate dojo in the local mall wouldn't usually be Ollie Ishikawa's first choice for training and practice. It's certainly not where he earned his black belt. It is where his friends are though, which means he's there too. When new student and fellow martial artist Jack Brewer joins the dojo, Ollie has the brief and very fleeting hope it means they might learn to focus more. Instead, he finds that the shenanigans somehow only get worse. Jack, on his part, can't be happier about the move to Seaford. Not only has he found a great group of friends but, if he's lucky, he might have found more in a certain someone. That's right. He can admit (to himself) he has a crush on Ollie. Now if he could only find the courage to admit the same to Ollie because, as the others have told him, that's the only way the oblivious boy will ever notice.
