Graffiti enthusiast Kyle Hastings finds himself in trouble for the third time when he's caught by police for spray painting under an overpass. At this point, he knows the drill: attend his court date, pay the fine, and do some community service, but what he doesn't expect is that while he helps the Meal Ladies at Davis Hospital, he'll meet the girl who changes his life forever.
Gwendalynn Conrad was diagnosed with Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia at the age of ten. For years, she's undergone the same boring, torturous routine of any cancer patient, but now, finally meeting a kid her own age, Gwen goes out of her way to befriend Kyle. The growing relationship between the two and the developing romantic feelings almost seemed forbidden for Gwen and impossible for Kyle. But because of Gwen, Kyle changes for the better.
All he really needed was a friend, but she meant so much more.
